Visual Minutes and Recording Memories
Documenting a Launch Event for The Lowry Theatre
This October I was invited to work with the Lowry Theatre in Salford, making them one of my favourite repeat clients. This time, I attended their launch event for a new exhibition: One Lowry Many Stories, which is a project that showcases the people that have shaped the theatre as they celebrate 25 years of history. My main role during the event was to record visual minutes of the short panel discussion, learning about the backstory of their engaging work. Following the panel discussion, I then recorded memories of the Lowry Theatre from the guests at the launch event. The responses were all so unique and varied, ranging from memories of life before the regeneration that the Lowry brought to memories of the theatre being the perfect place for a rainy day activity.
For this live illustration piece, I wanted to show a clear difference between the panel discussion and everyone’s memories. Therefore, I recorded the panel in the centre of the piece, in the shape of the theatre’s building as it is such an iconic piece of architecture. Then surrounding this, I documented individual’s memories in bold shapes which grew throughout the evening, just like how memories attached to the place have grown throughout history.
